Responses of Marine Diatom–Dinoflagellate Interspecific Competition to Different Phosphorus Sources

چکیده

Phosphorus (P) is an essential nutrient element of phytoplankton, as well a limiting factor for phytoplankton growth. It controls the succession blooms from diatoms to dinoflagellates, especially in East China Sea (ECS), where eutrophication serious. Most studies have only considered single aspect dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) or organic (DOP). In contrast, we investigated growth interactions among major bloom-forming marine diatom Skeletonema costatum and dinoflagellates Prorocentrum donghaiense Karenia mikimotoi by using bi-algal cultures combined with DIP DOP. Our results revealed that (1) P. K. survival strategies are superior those S. culture, whether under P-sufficient P-deficient conditions, (2) has slight competitive advantage over when P sufficient, but reverse true deficient. The difference interspecific competition at different concentrations DOP mainly arises variation utilization abilities species regards sources, finding which can also provide strong evidence revealing ECS.

Physiological Responses of Some Rootstocks and Interspecific Hybrids of Pistachio to Cold Stress under Greenhouse Conditions

Cold is an environmental factor limiting the growth and yield of agricultural crops. To find cold-tolerant pistachio rootstocks, a factorial experiment was conducted at Pistachio Research Center (PRC), Rafsanjan, Iran during 2017-2018. The factors included six rootstocks (Badami Zarand, Ghazvini, Sarakhs, Integerrima × Badami Zarand, Integerrima × Ghazvini and Integerrima × Sarakhs) and four th...

Spatial aspects of interspecific competition.

Using several variants of a stochastic spatial model introduced by Silvertown et al., we investigate the effect of spatial distribution of individuals on the outcome of competition. First, we prove rigorously that if one species has a competitive advantage over each of the others, then eventually it takes over all the sites in the system. Second, we examine tradeoffs between competition and dis...

Interspecific competition underlying mutualistic networks

Multiple classes of interactions may exist affecting one another in a given system. For the mutualistic networks of plants and pollinating animals, it has been known that the degree distribution is broad but often deviates from power-law form more significantly for plants than animals. To illuminate the origin of such asymmetry, we study a model network in which links are assigned under general...

Antioxidative Responses of Eucalyptus camaldulensis to Different Concentrations of Copper

Anthropogenic activities have caused important increases in soil Cu levels not only in urban areas but also in croplands. This study was designed to find out the effect of different concentration of copper on physiological and biochemical changes in Eucalyptus camaldulensis seedlings. Seeds of Eucalyptus camaldulensis were grown in marble chips and irrigated with nutrient solution mixed with co...
